Tasting the "Before"

Early most mornings during harvest we take samples of the various grapes we're growing to determine the taste profile and do analysis such as brix measurement, which is a scale of sugar. If you've never tasted wine grape juice, now's the time to stop by our tasting room. You'll be in for a treat - the "befores" and the "afters." By the way, a FREE Yorkville corkscrew to anyone who emails us and correctly names in one guess the varietal in the glass second from the left... (the 3rd glass is Sauvignon Blanc and the 4th is Semillon).

Harvest M onthly Specials -

Drink Politically Correct

On election night we'll find out whether the Red states or the Blue states come out on top. Since red and blue combined make PURPLE, that's the color we'll plan to drink. Red wines get their color from the pigments in the grape skin, which are absorbed during the long days and nights of fermentation. The skins of our Petit Verdot are typically a deep purple, almost black and the resulting wine, when young, has hues ranging from dark blue to red...the perfect PURPLE "one wine fits all" for election day!

Our other pick for you this month is Eleanor of Aquitaine, our white blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. But as you see above the fresh juice from these grapes is clearly GREEN. Just the right color to reflect Yorkville's twenty-two years of commitment to organic farming and GREEN Party supporters. Start drinking PURPLE: Yorkville Cellars 2006 Petit Verdot; NEW release, $25 per bottle. Forever GREEN: Yorkville Cellars 2006 Eleanor of Aquitaine, Best of class, California State Fair, $25 per bottle.
