Our Vineyard is "For the Birds"

As spring arrives each year, our vineyard is filled with native songbirds, who are more than happy to help reduce the population of insects hatching out. One of the great things about organic farming is working with nature as an ally: What we might consider a pest,

something else considers lunch.

Even on a cold day with rain and snow flurries, our feathered allies are hard at work (or lunch). The Varied Thrush, at top, is a favorite with the rust colored breast and distinct eye markings. They hop through our vineyard by the dozens, scratching at the soil and singing for their supper. Also seen: Western Bluebirds, robins, junkos, and occasional hawks to keep the songbirds on their toes.

March Monthly Special

We just reviewed our records and couldn't believe that it has been three years since we've featured Petit Verdot on an eNews. It seems we're too often sold out of Petit Verdot.

As you may know, we are one of only a

handful of California wineries that bottle Petit Verdot as a separate varietal. Because many of those $100+ Napa Cabs and Red Meritages utilize a little Petit Verdot in their blends, demand is high and yet there is very little planted. In fact, last year for the third year in a row, Petit Verdot was the most expensive grape to purchase in California ($5,115/ton versus Cab in 2nd place at $4,138/t-avg. in Napa). This month's special gives you our Petit Verdot at a savings of $5 per bottle.
